Fashion on Wheels

I biked in this morning for the first time this year. I confess to being a fair weather commuter, even though it ended up raining on me as I made my way in from Sellwood to the Pearl this morning. Anyway, as I was heading in, I tend to people watch and am particularly interested in what people wear for their bike commute.

One of the many things I admire about European cities is how, well, NORMAL they treat their bike transportation. There's no getting "kitted up" in tight fitting spandex and bike shoes every time they hop on a bike. Europeans wear normal clothes and look quite snappy doing it.

So, it was quite a coincidence that I ran across this section of the Sartorialist blog which featured what else? Fashion on bikes. Here are some of my favorite pictures from that blog. The first one is an art director in Milan. This gent is style on wheels. The second shot was taken in NYC. Her style is completely uncompromised.

When biking in to work, I tend to wear my usual street clothes and find this makes the commute a lot less "fussy" and complicated. I also see some inspired outfits while commuting in to work. Seeing the Sartorialist posting this morning inspired me to snap some shots in Portland of our fashion minded cyclists. Stay tuned. Should I get my act together, I'll start posting them.

Canisse

Canisse, a French line we debuted at our fashion show last month, was enthusiastically embraced by all who attended. So much so, that we had to rush to reorder several pieces! Happily, we were able to secure the NOA linen tunic in white and black. It's an easy summer piece that still looks smart. Asymetric lines and its loose (but not sloppy!) fit will be a welcome addition to your summer wardrobe on those 90+ degree days.

fourteen eighty degrees

We are excited to be getting in local glass artist, 1480 degrees in early May. Francine's work melds beautifully with our clothes, as it provides just the right amount of color and panache to our clothing here. We have both her necklaces and rings arriving in two weeks in a huge variety of colors. Just in time for Summer!

Fall Preview 08 Fashion Show Recap

As mentioned in my earlier posts, we were completely consumed recently with pulling off our 5 year Anniverary celebration/Fall Preview fashion show, which occured last Thursday and Friday evenings.

What a great time we all had (owner, models, and help included!). As usual, my clients are some of the most fascinating and enchanting women I know and they made the evening just that much more special.

While we did show some new spring/summer arrivals, the focus of the evening was Fall. I was excited to introduce some new lines to the audience such as Casch Copenhagen and Lilian H - Paris. Season clothing trends were discussed as well as showing the latest looks in hair and makeup on our models Fayren, Kerstin, and Tracy (Makeup courtesy of the fantastic Fez Studio, and hair by Maggie Greener of Belle Epoque Salon.

If you missed our event, we are seriously considering presenting Spring '09 preview in November. Pencil your calenders, ladies!
(special thanks to my friend Dana t. for the photos!)

The Devil is in the details

Apologies for not posting recently. I confess to being completely immersed in our upcoming event celebrating our FIVE year anniversary. While everything is falling into place, there still seems to be a crush of details to complete.

Happily, all our wonderful vendors - Casch, IKKS France, Lilian H, and Animale are all rising to the occasion for us! I can't wait to show our finds for Fall '08.

We will also be showing new Spring items. Many items already arrived, but we are holding them back until the big day! Stay tuned for wonderful summer items by French line, Canisse. We'll post pictures next week. Promise.
